A teenage boy was discovered deceased only a few days following being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The inquest learned how his parent got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, asserting her infant's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later determined the alleged burglary victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the items was never stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen remains attracted social media comments, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "social media content were really distressing", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Effect

She added that her son had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the relatives by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son told her he had gone into the house because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings heard that a young adult encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The hearing received testimony from educational personnel at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called Kai's parents' telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they did not got that communication.

Formal Finding

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Probably untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the police and after his questioning he was freed while investigations continued."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the acts or omissions of any organization led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
